The Five Things I Fear About Becoming A Ghost Writer

Ghost writing is a great way to practice your writing skills and enhance your ghost-writerconfidence before you start publishing your own books/ eBooks. I have been contemplating about taking up ghost writing for quite some time now however I stop short every time due to self-doubt and fear of failure. Here are the five biggest fears that keep me from taking up ghost-writing:

  1. What if my work is not good enough? One thing that constantly haunts me is that my work will not be able to meet the expectations of the client. Maybe I will goof up and write something very mediocre or maybe my writing style will not go well with people.
  2. What if I don’t understand the topic after I have taken the job? Another fear is that I have taken up the contract to write an eBook and then after getting the topic I don’t understand any of it. It will be so embarrassing and disappointing to turn down the client after wasting their time in price negotiations.
  3. What is the correct rate to be charged? Since I have absolutely no idea how much is appropriate to charge for ghost writing an eBook therefore it is another area of concern that makes me anxious.
  4. What if I cannot meet the deadline? If the topic is a complex one with many aspects then it may become difficult to structure them and make into a compact eBook in just a week which I think is the standard time frame in which the clients expect the finished material. A late submission will tamper my reputation no matter the quality of my work.
  5. What if I am stuck being a ghost writer all my life? This is a bit far-fetched and may sound hysterical on my side but still I feel that it may be possible that I will never work up the confidence to publish anything in my name and choose the safer option of writing for someone else.

Now that I have recognized these issues, I am starting to work on them one by one. What can I say, maybe I will become a ghost writer sooner than I think 😉
